Through field trips and off-island residential expoeriences, our students embark on memorable journeys that not only challenge and inspire, they help build lasting friendships cultivate a profound connection with the wider world. From the early years, students engage in local explorations—discovering the rich history and vibrant ecosystems of The Bahamas. As they progress, opportunities expand to include:
The Governor General’s Youth Award
A highlight of our co-curricular life is the Governor General’s Youth Award (GGYA) — the Bahamian version of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. GGYA provides structured opportunities for students to undertake physical challenges, community service, skill development, and adventurous journeys across The Bahamas. Guided by our GGYA Coordinator, participants learn expedition planning, navigation, and environmental responsibility while developing perseverance and leadership. For many, the multi-day hikes and camping trips represent their first real taste of independence — and a deep appreciation for the country’s natural beauty.

Island and International Experiences
While much of our expedition work takes advantage of The Bahamas’ remarkable geography — its reefs, national parks, and neighbouring islands — the spirit of exploration reaches beyond our shores. Our Model United Nations (MUN) programmes provide older students with opportunities to travel, debate, and collaborate internationally, extending their sense of adventure from the physical to the intellectual. These global encounters strengthen the same skills learned on outdoor journeys: preparation, adaptability, and perspective.

Environmental Adventures
As a certified Eco Schools Green Flag institution, St Andrew’s embeds environmental awareness into every outdoor experience. Expeditions often include conservation projects — beach clean-ups, mangrove studies, or sustainability workshops. Students see firsthand how exploration and stewardship are intertwined, learning that adventure comes with a duty to protect what we discover.

Community and Reflection
What unites every expedition, from the GGYA hikes to international conferences, is reflection. Students document their progress through journals, presentations, and advisory sessions, linking their adventures to personal growth and the school’s vision.
Expeditions and Adventures at St Andrew’s are not just trips — they are transformations. They shape character, nurture independence, and create lasting memories of teamwork and discovery. From camping on remote islands to presenting research abroad, our students learn that the greatest adventures begin with curiosity and end with understanding — of self, of others, and of the world we share.
